1st CIRCULAR
The Laboratory of Ancient Topography and Photogrammetry
(LABTAF) of the University of Salento and the Laboratory of
Ancient Topography and Archaeological Cartography of the
National Research Council, Institute of Sciences of Cultural
Heritage (CNR-ISPC), in collaboration with the National
Aerophoto Library, the British School at Rome and Sapienza
University of Rome - Department of Ancient Sciences, intend
to organise an International Study Conference with the
following theme: "The Bradford Legacy (1975-2025). Aerial
Images and Ancient Landscapes.
50 years after the untimely death of John Bradford
(1918-1975), author of the book Ancient Landscapes (1957),
one of the most fundamental and best known texts in the
field of aerial archaeology, the Conference will have as its
main theme and leitmotif the scientific legacy of the
English scholar, one of the pioneers and greatest masters in
the use of aerial images for archaeological aerotopography.
In addition to commemorating the figure of Bradford, this
conference is also intended to offer a representative
overview of the main research orientations and methodologies
animating the current Italian and international panorama of
aerial archaeology. An open and dynamic meeting is hoped
for.
The event will take place in Rome on May 22th, and 23th 2025
in the BSR, Sapienza University of Rome and Aerofototeca.
Oral contributions should not exceed 20 minutes. A short
discussion will follow each presentation. A poster session
will be held.

The Organisers welcome abstract submission. Abstracts
(including the title of the contribution and authors’
affiliations) should not exceed 500 words, and should
indicate in which session the presentation. They should be
submitted to the Organising Committee by 15th October 2024.
Abstract acceptance (whether for oral or poster
presentation) will be notified to authors by 15th November
2024. Accepted contributors are expected to submit a
camera-ready paper (50.000 characters maximum) including
illustrations (up to 12) by 30th June 2025. The Conference
proceedings, after a double-blind review process, will be
published in a dedicated volume of the journal “Archeologia
Aerea. Studi di Aerotopografia Archeologica”. To facilitate
the participation to the event and to promote the attendance
of young scholars, there will NOT be any registration fee
for attendant and NO extra cost is requested for the
publication of the proceedings.
